With such a limitless variety of kitchen backsplash options, choosing a backsplash for your kitchen project can be both fun and exciting!

Even if you’re on a tight budget, you can easily dress up an area in your kitchen with a product that fits your budget.

What would be an elegant kitchen backsplash option?

To create an elegant backsplash, select a tile that catches your eye with a bit of “sparkle” such as, glass, mother of pearl, mosaic, or glitter.

You could select a tile in a unique pattern, like herringbone or chevron. This will give your space a rich, timeless look. You can also incorporate a beautiful mosaic under your hood, and over your cooktop, for a lovely feature.

You can find reasonably priced pattern sheets of tile backsplash. Glass tiles and specialty tile, though, will be more expensive.

What if I want to add color to my backsplash?

Using color in your backsplash can add a beautiful and unique look to your kitchen. Your kitchen is the most used space in your home, so it is a wonderful area to express yourself.

If you need help with choosing the right color tile, I recommend consulting with a designer or your tile professional. It is always good to have a second opinion. Depending on the tiles you select, you can create a visual design that you and your guests will enjoy for years to come.

What if I want a simple backsplash?

Choosing a simple backsplash can be affordable and a great option, especially if you are thinking of selling your home in the not-so-distant future.

By a simple backsplash, I am referring to using the same tile in a simple pattern (e.g., a “subway tile”). This makes it easier to install and also to keep clean. It adds a simple, yet sleek, and elegant look to your kitchen.

Can I mix and match different backsplash options?

Yes, you can mix and match tiles together. Bring your inspirational photos to your tile professional, or designer, and they will offer their expertise for creating a cohesive backsplash that works within your budget.

You can blend simple subway tiles with decorative glass tiles, and add a beautiful mosaic. Your budget may direct which tiles to spend more on, and which tiles to spend less on.

Even if you have a modern, elegant kitchen, a simple backsplash can work well.

Any ideas of a backsplash for my vintage, rustic farmhouse?

If you are looking for a unique idea that will stay within the feel of your vintage or rustic kitchen, use painted beadboard for your backsplash. I recommend using a semi-gloss paint, so it will be easy to clean.

Copper panels are also a nice look for a vintage or rustic kitchen. They will require some cleaning to maintain their rich color, or you can let them oxidize for a more weathered look.

Tin Panels
are also quite lovely and reasonably priced, they come in a variety of styles just as copper; however, tin panels are sometimes painted.

If your paneled backsplash has a design, it could make cleaning more difficult. You could also go with a simple, smooth copper finish for easier cleaning.

These are inexpensive styles you can do yourself if you have the right tools and patience.

How can I dress up my backsplash on a very tight budget?

Even if you have a very tight budget you can still have a lovely backsplash that is also easy to clean.

You can use stick-on tile sheets that you can apply yourself. The instructions are easy to follow, and the sheets are simple to cut.

Another option is peel and stick vinyl wallpaper. It comes in a huge variety of styles and colors, and you can remove it easily if you decide to change the style and color.

Both of these options are inexpensive and easy to wipe clean. You’ll want to prepare your walls by cleaning them well, then drying, before applying.

With so many available options for your new backsplash, you can feel confident you will find one that fits both your style, the look you are trying to create, and your budget!
