Discovery

Taylor and Mike were on vacation when they got the call — their kitchen had flooded. A leak from an upstairs bathroom pipe had caused significant water damage, leaving the kitchen below in disrepair. They returned home only to move their family into a single hotel room for the next several weeks. By the time they connected with Dean Cabinetry, they were more than ready to move forward with a kitchen that felt like home again.

Because of the urgency of the situation, they didn’t have the luxury of time to fully dream up their ideal kitchen. That’s where Dean Cabinetry stepped in. John Dean visited their home to take measurements and provide layout ideas, helping guide the process from day one.

Budget

With layout and measurements in hand, the Dean Cabinetry design team presented three best-value options: stock, semi-custom, and custom cabinetry. Mike and Taylor chose the Fabuwood stock cabinetry line for their kitchen remodel, a perfect blend of affordability, quality, and durability that fit their needs and timeline.

Plan

With their two children in tow, Mike and Taylor visited the Dean Cabinetry showroom to start making design decisions. They knew they didn’t want to feel closed off while cooking — they wanted an open space that connected their kitchen to the dining and living rooms.

The new layout accomplished this by removing dividing walls, which meant giving up most of their upper cabinetry. Our design team helped reimagine the space with deep lower drawers for everyday essentials like plates and servingware.

A key turning point in the design process came when Mike and Taylor reviewed the 3D design mockups. Seeing the proposed kitchen layout come to life on screen helped them truly visualize how the space would function and feel. With that perspective, they made a few thoughtful adjustments — small layout tweaks that ultimately made a big difference in the flow and usability of the kitchen.

They were also pleasantly surprised when we asked about their lifestyle — their family, their two kids, and even their dog. We tailored the design not just for function, but for how they live.

One standout feature? A pull-out pantry custom-fitted into what was previously an unused closet. It became a favorite spot for their son, who now has easy access to his snacks — his size, his speed.

Order

The homeowners chose the Fabuwood Galaxy Line, a full-overlay, Shaker-style cabinet with clean, simple lines, for their CT home.

For finishes, they selected Horizon, a soft gray with subtle blue undertones, for the perimeter cabinetry, and Indigo, a rich navy blue, for the island. Together, these tones bring a perfect mix of modern freshness and classic elegance to their open-concept kitchen.

Install

Dean Cabinetry installer, Todd, did an impeccable job bringing the cabinetry to life. Contractor Mike Wolff of Wall 2 Wall Home Improvement completed the rest of the renovation, transforming the space into a warm, functional, and stylish family hub. The installation was a seamless process. Mike shared, “The installer did a phenomenal job. For such a big project, it was flawless.”

Follow Up

With the beautiful Fabuwood cabinetry, white quartz countertops, classic subway tile, and thoughtful kitchen details all in place, this remodel is now a space the whole family loves coming home to.

Ask the homeowners now about their new kitchen, and they’ll tell you:
“It’s a dream come true.”

Taylor added, “It’s so wide open and we love the island. It feels like no matter where you are in the house, you’re part of what’s going on. From the kitchen, I can see the kids in the living room — I’m not packed away in a little kitchen.”

Mike pointed out that many people look back after a renovation and say, “I wish I did this… I wish I did that.”
But not for this CT Fabuwood kitchen remodel.
“Dean Cabinetry helped capture everything — there’s nothing in the kitchen right now that I would change.”
