Four years ago, a water-loving family stumbled upon a hidden gem in Niantic, CT. It had the views, the salty breeze, and the perfect proximity for the husband to set sail at a moment’s notice.
It was destined to be their “forever home,” but there was one snag: the interior was frozen in a 1990s time capsule. It was a sea of tired, builder-grade tile and a kitchen layout so cramped it felt more like a galley than a gathering place.
They didn’t want a “cookie-cutter” coastal look; they wanted a home that hummed with their own eclectic energy.
A Design Partner Who Truly Listened
Working with our Client Manager, Cara, the homeowners found a partner who truly “got” their vision. Moving away from the traditional designs everyone else was doing, they opted for a bold and personalized approach.
Even with the inherent challenges of a coastal remodel, the process remained smooth thanks to the collaborative efforts of Gryffin Everett Custom Building & Remodeling. Contractor, Chris Kohn, provided expert guidance, ensuring the family felt heard and supported throughout the entire installation.
A Kitchen That Captures the Coast—Literally
The space is anchored by Massachusetts Design cabinetry in a bold Denim finish, featuring frameless construction and the streamlined Illinois door style for a crisp, modern profile.
Looking up reveals the room’s true “wow” factor: a custom-painted beach mural spanning the vaulted ceiling, bringing the Niantic shoreline right into the heart of the home.
To balance the deep blue tones, the design blends soft white Corian counters and sink with the organic warmth of a maple butcher block peninsula, creating a dedicated zone for both prep work and conversation.
A Home That Finally Feels Like Theirs
This kitchen is as smart as it is stylish, featuring clever secrets tucked behind every door. Organization is an art form here, from the tiered pantry rollouts for easy dish access to the hidden spice organizers tucked into the upper cabinets. Whimsical touches, like the gold rabbit hardware and unique outlet covers, prove that high-end design doesn’t have to take itself too seriously.
The final result is a vibrant, eclectic retreat that makes daily life—from morning coffee to cooking—feel effortless. By choosing local partners who value thoughtful, efficient practices, this Niantic family successfully turned an outdated house into a one-of-a-kind sanctuary that finally reflects the people living inside.
