I had such a lovely visit with a retired couple in South Windsor, CT. Their renovation journey began after an extensive search for a new home came up short. With their family growing to 10, these proud grandparents decided to stay in their current home and renovate. Keeping their expanding family in mind, they began with the heart of the home—the kitchen. They wanted a space that not only accommodated everyone but also allowed them to keep an eye on their grandkids during visits. Their must-haves? Plenty of pantry space and an island with seating—perfect for both everyday meals and family gatherings.
Inspired by their love of HGTV, they had a clear vision from the start: a beautiful blend of cream and sage tones to bring warmth and charm to their open-concept design. We recommended Brian Boire from Enterprise Renovations, the ideal contractor for the project. By opening up the space and removing multiple walls, we had plenty of opportunities to design a kitchen that met their needs.
They chose frameless, full-overlay John Dean Custom Cabinetry. The upper cabinets were painted in Sherwin Williams Creamy, while the lower cabinets are in Sherwin Williams Green Onyx. These inviting colors are perfectly complemented by the Astoria granite countertops and extended backsplash, adding a warm, elegant feel.
And let’s not forget the island—a chef’s dream! Complete with a Viking Cooktop , stainless steel hood, deep drawers, and a handy utensil pull-out, everything is within reach. A real treat? The built-in mixer lift, perfect for baking with the grandkids! And as for pantry space, this kitchen goes above and beyond with a two-tiered, full-wall pantry featuring roll-out shelves—there’s no chance of running out of storage here!
The main wall of the kitchen now features a coffee and beverage station, a sleek Viking wall oven and microwave, a Bosch dishwasher, and a glass cabinet for displaying special dishes.
But the sweetest touch of all? A surprise garden window for his wife’s plants—a heartwarming gesture from her husband. Well done, hubby!
This is a kitchen built for family, love, and lasting memories.
