Dean Custom Cabinets | Off White | East Haven, CT

This East Haven shoreline kitchen remodel replaces a dated layout with custom cabinetry designed for better storage, flow, and everyday living. Thoughtfully crafted cabinets, deep drawers, and smart pullouts maximize space, while built-ins create a seamless connection to the living area. The result is a bright, functional kitchen with timeless cabinetry tailored for coastal living.

The Kitchen Story

In the shoreline community of East Haven CT, this 1988 condo has long been a summer retreat—a place to unwind, recharge, and enjoy sweeping water views. Purchased in 2020 just before the market surge, the home quickly became more than a seasonal escape.

During COVID, the client found herself spending extended time there and realized the original 1980s kitchen simply wasn’t keeping up. Having completed several renovations in previous homes, she knew what she wanted—and what she didn’t. This time, she was ready to skip the big-box experience and invest in something truly custom.

What began as a simple appliance upgrade quickly revealed deeper issues. A new refrigerator—sleek and spacious—proved too large for the existing layout. As she removed the old pantry herself, it literally began to fall apart in her hands. Worn-out pullouts and aging cabinetry made it clear that a full renovation wasn’t just a want, but a need. Rather than patching together fixes, she decided to reimagine the entire space with custom kitchen cabinetry tailored to how she actually lives.

Working closely with our Client Manager, she found the planning process both collaborative and energizing. We listened carefully, asked thoughtful questions, and offered creative solutions she hadn’t considered.

The result is a kitchen that feels intentional, effortless, and beautifully balanced. Our John Dean Custom Cabinetry in Chalk White brightens the space while maintaining a timeless, classic feel. The frameless cabinet construction allows for full-access storage and creates a clean, streamlined appearance throughout the kitchen. Flat panel doors keep the design simple and sophisticated, while the subtle Bevel profile introduces just the right touch of dimension without overpowering the overall aesthetic.

Storage was a top priority, and now everything has its place—with room to spare. Deep drawers, functional pullouts, and smartly designed cabinets make everyday use seamless. She especially loves opening a cabinet and still seeing empty space—proof that thoughtful design can deliver both beauty and practicality!

The transformation didn’t stop at the kitchen. An old hutch and china cabinet were replaced with built-ins that tie the living room to the kitchen, using semi-custom Designer’s Choice cabinetry.

Opening up the doorway between spaces made a dramatic difference, improving flow and allowing natural light to travel more freely through the condo. The finished result feels cohesive and airy—perfectly suited for relaxed summer living and, one day, retirement by the water.

Delivery day brought “so many boxes in such a tiny space,” but our installation team handled it with care and coordination. Jay and Todd ensured everything was completed smoothly and on schedule, even proactively replacing a few doors with minor discoloration.

The attention to detail did not go unnoticed. With new appliances—including a spacious Samsung refrigerator and a reliable GE range—the kitchen now feels as good as it looks.

When we visited after completion, she was beaming—eager to share her new space. The renovation exceeded her expectations not because it was flashy, but because it was thoughtful. It works. It feels right. And most importantly, it feels like home—ready to welcome many more summers on the Connecticut shore.
