A New Foundation in Westerly RI
When the owners of this stunning Westerly property decided to transform their seasonal bungalow into a year-round retreat, they knew the kitchen had to be the heart of the home.
After five years of enjoying the Rhode Island coast in a more modest space, they dug a new foundation and embarked on a full-scale build. The goal was clear: a bright, refreshed aesthetic that maximized the incredible ocean views and provided a functional flow for their lifestyle.
Originally considering semi-custom options or even DIY-style modular boxes, a glowing recommendation from a friend in Avondale led them to Dean Cabinetry. The clients discovered that a fully custom dream kitchen was within much closer reach than they imagined.
A Seamless Collaboration
We worked alongside Suzanne at Perfect Home Interior Design, LLC to ensure the cabinetry and finishes tied in with the home’s overall coastal aesthetic. Carl Johnson Design Build handled the construction and the expert installation of the intricate crown molding. It was a smooth collaboration between the design and build teams to get every detail just right.
Collaborative Planning & Creative Solutions
The planning process was a collaborative success, thanks to Client Manager, Paul. The clients noted that Paul was incredibly detail-oriented and creative when it came to problem-solving. One of the biggest wins during the discovery phase was Paul demonstrating how they could achieve a high-end, custom look for a price point that rivaled semi-custom alternatives. His flexibility and willingness to be upfront about design choices built a foundation of trust that lasted throughout the project.
Premium Materials & Custom Features
Materials and features were chosen to reflect the coastal light. The custom John Dean Custom Cabinetry features a crisp, timeless finish in Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, beautifully contrasted by a natural Quarter Sawn White Oak island and open shelving. This combination brings an organic warmth to the sleek, modern lines of the space.
The kitchen is packed with high-performance features, including a GE Induction cooktop, KitchenAid double ovens, and a dedicated beverage area featuring an XO wine cooler.
A favorite takeaway for the clients has been the transition from traditional base cabinets to deep drawers, which they found provides far superior functionality and organization.
Precise Installation & Expert Craftsmanship
The installation phase brought its own set of highlights, specifically the work of Installer Shawn. The clients were particularly impressed by the installer’s commitment to quality control and his willingness to work closely with them to ensure every alignment was “just right.” It is this level of accountability—from the first sketch to the final adjustments—that defines the Dean Cabinetry experience.
The Ultimate Waterfront Outcome
Today, the home stands as a testament to thoughtful renovation. The result is a seamless, open-concept space that feels like it was always meant to be there. This kitchen perfectly frames the Atlantic views, offering a warm and inviting space where everything functions as beautifully as it looks.
